How the Hex Display Works in Logisim

The Hex Digit Display combines a 7-segment LED readout with an internal 4-bit hexadecimal decoder. Instead of wiring 7 separate segment lines, you connect a single 4-bit bus to the left bottom pin (Hex) and the display automatically illuminates the matching digit from 0 through 9 and A through F.

A second 1-bit pin on the bottom right (dp) controls the decimal point independently. If you have 4 separate 1-bit wires (such as the outputs of 4 flip-flops), combine them into a 4-bit bus first using a Splitter before connecting to the Hex pin.

Tip: Connect the 4-bit Q output of a Counter or Register directly to the bottom-left Hex pin to watch your circuit count from 0 to F.

Hex Display Pins & Pinout

PinDirectionWidthLocation & Role
in0 (Hex)Input (Bottom-left)4 bitsOffset (10, 60). Accepts a 4-bit binary value (0000 to 1111) and displays hex digit 0–F.
dp (dp)Input (Bottom-right)1 bitOffset (20, 60). Illuminates the decimal point when driven to 1.
